Young players are shaping up well and it is a big positive for us: MS Dhoni

Indian team captain MS Dhoni praised his spinners for putting up a brave show on the pitches that that didn’t offer much, says a report in The Hindu.

“We would like to see ourselves playing on turning tracks, we have not really seen that in this series. Yet, the spinners bowled brilliantly in Hyderabad and Bangalore,” Dhoni said.

Dhoni however, was not convinced with the way the fast bowlers bowled, “The fast bowlers have to chip in a bit, they bowled quite well considering there was not much for them”, said Dhoni.

Virat Kohli played brilliantly in both innings and the captain, Dhoni said, “Virat played brilliantly, especially in this Test, because we needed someone to soak up the pressure. Pujara was good in this innings and in the last Test as well. It is a continuous learning process, and they are shaping up well. It is a big positive for us.”

On the upcoming Test series against England and Australia, Dhoni said that the team is more likely to be the same.

“These are the men we’ve to fight the war with because you have put in a lot of time and effort on these players. It’s not that in just one or two games you see players who will always perform. Also, there are two ways of fighting pressure - one is to go and play your shots while the other is to soak in the pressure”, Dhoni was quoted saying in the Asian Age.

On the young players taking the mantle from the senior players, Dhoni said, “The boys who are coming in are not replacing anyone. They are coming in with their own character and it was nice to see them perform. Virat played well in this Test. We needed someone to soak up the pressure and he was the guy who did that in both the innings. ujara was good in this innings as well as in the last Test. So it is a continuous learning process and they are shaping up well. It is a big positive.”
