India under-19 captain Unmukt Chand said that he met former Australia captain Ian Chappell, says a report in The Hindu.
“Yes, we met at the toss and he told me to keep the way I am playing and stay grounded”, said Chand.
“We are extremely happy to have won the World Cup. We put in lot of effort. We faltered initially, but learned positives from the defeat against the West Indies and believed that we could lift the World Cup”, he added.
On his future, Chand said, “Well, I would like to take it series by series. My next aim is to play for India ‘A’. I want to play for India, but my objective is to do well for the India ‘A’ team in New Zealand.”
Sanjay Jagdale, secretary BCCI and Anuraj Thakur, joint secretary BCCI, presented cheques for Rs. 20 lakh to each member of the winning team and Rs. 15 lakh to each of the support staff in the felicitation ceremony.
Meanwhile, a report in the DNA says that Unmukt Chand who is a student of St Stephen’s College in New Delhi, will not get promoted to the next class.
“There is no way he can be promoted. The rules don’t permit that. We’ve not detained him. Unmukt detained himself”, said Valson Thampu, principal of the college.
“I’ve sympathy for Unmukt but these are Delhi University rules,” the principal added.
