Indian U-19 World Cup winning team arrived in India amidst much fanfare and was received by thousands of fans gathered outside the Chattrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai.
A report in the DNA writes that as the skipper Unmukt Chand, who scored a match inning century, came out of the airport holding the trophy, celebrations broke out.
Local Harmeet Singh's relatives and friends also turned up in large numbers and carried a huge cutout of the spinner.
"I am very happy. We played well in Australia and won it. It's a proud feeling," Chand was quoted in the report.
About a possible national team call up, he said "(Berth in the) Senior team is a long way away. Now there is an India A team (tour to New Zealand) where I have to perform. If I perform well, then let's see.”
A report in The Times of India writes that after the World Cup triumph, he has not got carried away and has head at the right place feet on the ground and too.
"Right now, I am not thinking whether I am good enough to play for India and whether I should be picked. I have been selected for India 'A', so the next target is to go to New Zealand and perform. I am just cherishing this moment and enjoying myself," Chand was quoted by TOI.
Right now I want to take things one step at a time. At the moment I just want to perform at whatever level I am picked. I do want to play for India but that will happen in its own time," he added.
Talking about his century that helped India win the championships, he said, "We are very happy to win the World Cup. Aug 26th is a big day for me. I think I was fortunate to score the hundred when my team needed me most. The final was an important match and I wanted to do well. Some days you click and some days you don't. I wanted to take India to 226 and I was successful and am really happy about it.”
The Hindu writes that former Australian captain Ian Chappell met Unmukt occasionally and did offer him sound advice.
Chappell is impressed with Unmukt batting and leadership and talking about Chappell, Unmukt said, ““Yes, we met at the toss and he told me to keep the way I am playing and stay grounded.”
Meanwhile another report in The Times of India writes Australian Under 19 skipper William Bosisto finds lot of similarities between Unmukt and Virat Kohli.
"It was great to watch Virat in the Tests in Australia. The Aussies tried to put pressure on him but he stood up to them. I guess Unmukt is quite a similar bloke - tough and competitive," the report quoted Bosisto.
Talking about Unmukt in the match, Bosisto said, "I don't know what different things I could have done to stop him. He's such fantastic player. He rotated his bowlers intelligently and his move to use Harmeet Singh during the Powerplay paid off. He seemed to save the better balls for the tough times and that put the brakes on us."
