Ganguly lauds Under 19 World Cup triumph, says the win is special

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly was all praise for the Indian Under 19 team that won the World Cup in Australia and said that the victory was special since it came in Australia.

"It's a fabulous achievement. I saw the game on TV. Winning a world cup in Australia is a special achievement. So, on that point of view, congratulations to the Under-19 boys,” Ganguly was quoted by The Indian Express.

“Unmukt Chand and his team, they played fabulously," he added.

Ganguly lauded skipper Unmukt Chand for his brave-heart innings, which scripted the win.

The legendary cricketer remained upbeat about the players and said that they would create the base for Indian cricket team in the years to come.

"It is still early days. Indian cricket is always strong. But Under-19 is the base from which future generation players are developed. You see Virat Kohli, three or four years ago, he was the Under-19 captain who won the World Cup also. It is the base from which future players come in," he said, when asked how he saw the road ahead for the players who won the World Cup,” Ganguly added.

Meanwhile a report in The Times of India quotes Akram as saying, "As a whole package, he is excellent. This guy is very special and I hope the Indian selectors are looking at him because Ian Chappell (former Australian captain) has been saying, we have been saying that Chand is ready for India."

"It's been our privilege to see the innings played today by Chand. It's the best innings in U-19 cricket that I have ever seen. I think few players are ready to play for India 'A' or may be for the Indian team, Sandeep Sharma and Unmukt Chand. Chand has already got picked for India 'A' touring New Zealand in September-October," he said.
