We have not won enough medals, but overall I am happy with our boxers' performance: GS Sandhu

Indian boxing team could only manage to win one bronze medal at the london Olympics but boxing coach Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu said that the boxers gave their best performances, says a report in The Hindustan Times.

Sandhu said, “We have fought brilliantly but have been denied a medal. We were unable to translate good performances into a medal but that does not take away the fact that the boys gave an excellent account of themselves.”

Apart from MC Mary Kom no boxer could manage to win a medal. This was the biggest Indian boxing contingent thet participated in Olympics.

Meanwhile, a report In The Hindu says that GS Sandhu is contemplating retirement but will consult the Federation officials before taking the decision.

Sandhu said, “I had earlier said that 60 is the age of retirement. I will take a decision when I return to India. I will talk to my president and other officials and also seek their views before taking a final decision.”

On boxers performace at London Olympics he said, ““Boxing is a religion for me. I have been involved in boxing for most part of my life. I can’t go home happy because we have not won enough medals. Overall, I am happy with the performance. There were a number of young boxers taking part in the Olympics for the first time. They boxed well but it could not translate into medals. I am responsible for that.
