Rohit has failed for too long, Manoj Tiwary has done well and he should get more opportunities: Vengsarkar

Former Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar feels that Maoj Tiwary should get a longer run in the Indian squad after the string of failures from Rohit Sharma, says a report in The Times of India.

Ex-selection committee chief said, “Rohit has failed for too long. I think Manoj Tiwary should have got the nod straightaway when Rohit was struggling.”

He added, “There is no doubt over Rohit's potential and ability. But he has to convert potential into performance. Tiwary has proven himself with both bat and ball. If Rohit is struggling for so long then opportunities should be given to others.”

Rohit Sharma had a miserable outing in Sri Lanka where he scored 13 runs from five innings. Tiwary on the other hand had a greart time in the two matches that he played. In his first match he picked four wickets and he scored a half-century in his second match.

Vengsarkar on Manoj Tiwary was quoted by The Indian Express saying, “Tiwary has done extremely well and I think he should get more opportunities.”

He however did not go into the debate of replacing VVS Laxman with a youngster. “I am not a selector now, but what I have heard he has scored a 100 recently in some domestic game. I believe in form and fitness. I am not bothered how old a player is”, he said.
