Vijay Kumar won the second medal for India at the London Olympics by claiming the silver medal in the men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol, says a report in The Times of India.
Vijay on his win said, “I had mentally prepared myself for this moment. Being in the Army has made me mentally tough and used this to my advantage. Whatever I had planned, I have achieved.
On what the Olympic medal means to him he said, “This medal means such a lot to me. It has been my dream to win an Olympic medal. It is the highest peak you can achieve. I have a lot of medals on the wall but an Olympic one was missing until now. I have been in other competitions where the scoring has been normal like this but this was the Olympic Games. I had to ensure that I retained my composure right through.”
On the pressure that was on him, Vijay said, “You can never blank out the fact that you are competing in the Olympic Games but I managed to remain focussed. I knew I had to keep control over my nervous system. This was my first Olympics, I knew I had to keep my focus and concentrate and I did that."
Meanwhile, a report in The Indian Express says that the Indian boxing team is set counter protest against the controversial decision surround Vikas Krishan’s exit.
National coach, Gurbax Singh Sandhu was quoted in the report saying, “We are reviewing the video ourselves and preparing a counter-protest. We will submit it at the start of the session today in the afternoon at around 1:00pm. I don't know what the technicalities are but Raja says there is a way to give a reply.”
