Number four seeded pair of India's Leander Paes Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek went down to Brazilian Marcelo Melo and Croatia's Ivan Dodig 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (2-6), 8-6 in a rain-interrupted third round match at Wimbledon, says a report in The Times of India.
The Brazilians were leading when rain stopped the match for the first time, but after the rain interval the Indo-Czech pair upped their game and won the fourth set in the tie-breaker.
But in the final set Paes’s serve was broken by their opponents to win the match.
India players bad show in Wimbledon continued as the seventh seeded pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna suffered a second round defeat 5-7, 6-7 (4-7), 3-6, by the unseeded pair of Russian Mikhail Elgin and Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan, says a report in The Hindustan Times.
Bhupathi-Bopanna made far too many unforced errors and lost the match there.
"It all boiled down to the break-points, we had four breakpoints on their serve but each time they served bombs. When we were down breakpoints we weren't able to do that. I don't think the rain bothered us. If at all it should've helped us gain some momentum because they were leading, playing well when rain stopped play early in the third set," said Bhupathi after the match.
