Top Indian athletes who will be leaving for London soon, got a warm send-off in a function in New Delhi. Present at the event from shooting team were Ronjan Sodhi, Manavjit Singh Sandhu and Gagan Narang. From Boxing team, MC Marykom, and male boxers Devendro Singh and Vikas Krishan Yadav and teenaged archer Deepika Kumari, says a report in The Hindustan Times.
A report in The Times of India says, World No 1 archer Deepika Kumari when asked that what does an Olympic medal means for her said, “You people know better what it means. I can't explain it... it's my dream, my life since I picked up a bow and arrow.”
On her being ranked as the number one archer in the world she said, “World ranking gives me confidence, but I am not so happy with just this. I'll be happy if I can win a medal in London."
“I am focusing on my training and working on my technique. In archery, even small errors can make a huge difference,” she added.
A report in the Indian Express says, Indian shooting team are geared up for the London Olympics as Manavjit Sandhu who will be participating in his third Olympics said, “The shooting team has a mix of youngsters and experienced people. Most of us are in top form and we are well prepared. I can say this is the best Indian shooting team in Olympics and so definitely we will perform better than in Beijing.”
On the pressure that Olympic Games possesses, Sandhu said, “Olympics comes in four years and performance on that particular day matters. So there is always some nervousness in the thought that whether you will be able to give your best on that day or else all the hard work will go waste. So, keeping calm and maintaining focus is important. For all first time Olympians, the most difficult thing will be to control your nerves.”
Ronjon Sodhi who is one of the medal contenders from India said, “I am mentally prepared. I am not going to do anything different and change my gameplan in London. Because of the I will do the same I have been doing previously.”
