Delhi Daredevils thrash Mumbai Indians by seven wickets

Delhi Daredevils defeated Mumbai Indians comprehensively at the Wankhede stadium on Monday. Mumbai playing in front of their home crowd were bowled out for 92, becoming the first team in IPL V to bundle out before touching the three figures mark. Asked to chase an easy total of 92, Delhi did so in 14.5 overs by losing just three wickets.

A report in The Hindu says with Mumbai Indians losing both their openers Richard Levi and Davy Jacobs to left -arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, things became difficult for them and they could never get from these early setbacks, and eventually were drubbed by seven wickets at their backyard. Given a target of 93, it never could create any problems for Delhi and led by the skipper Virender Sehwag himself, they raced off to the target of just 14.5 overs to pick up their third win.

According to Mail Today Delhi’s clinical approach helped them to pick up their win in the tournament and move to the top of the points table. The report says that Delhi Daredevils bowlers justified skipper Virender Sehwag decision to bowl on a pitch that had steep bounce on offer, by bowling out Mumbai for a paltry 92, before chasing down the target in just 14.5 overs with seven wickets to spare.

The Indian Express writes that even though Mumbai Indians skipper who played an attacking innings of 33 lower down the order, it could not help Mumbai save the blushes as they became the first team in this year’s tournament to have been bowled out below 100.

According to TOI, asking rate of 4.15 for a batting line up of Delhi Daredevils who have the likes of Virender Sehwag, Kevin Pieterson, Mahela Jayawerdene and Ross Taylor amongst other was an task to achieve especially with Mumbai Indians resting Lasith Malinga, and so they did make it look easy as they raced off to the victory in just 14.5 with seven wickets remaining.
