16 September 2026: Formula 1 and the FIA have announced a 24-race calendar for 2027, expanding the Sprint programme from six events to 10 and confirming the return of Portugal and Türkiye.

Approved by the World Motor Sport Council, the FIA Formula One World Championship will visit 22 countries across five continents. Bahrain hosts pre-season testing on 24–27 February and the opening race weekend on 12–14 March.

Saudi Arabia follows Bahrain before the championship moves to Australia, Japan and China, then Miami and Canada. Portugal returns in June after Monaco, while Türkiye rejoins in October between Azerbaijan and Singapore.

The final stretch takes in Austin, Mexico City, São Paulo and Las Vegas before Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Formula 1 says the geographical sequence is intended to improve the calendar’s efficiency and support its long-term sustainability goals.

Sprint programme expands

Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco and Abu Dhabi will hold Sprints for the first time. Montréal, Silverstone, Monza, São Paulo and Lusail retain the format.

Monaco will stage two qualifying sessions, giving drivers two competitive qualifying outings on the streets of Monte Carlo.

Formula 1 cited demand for the format, introduced in 2021. Its figures show total viewership of Sprint weekends is 12% higher than for non-Sprint weekends, while Sprint Qualifying is up to three times more popular than free practice.

It also reported that 82% of Sprint-weekend attendees believe the format adds value to their ticket, while 75% of F1 fans say it adds value to the season’s calendar.
