Rio de Janeiro: Paraguayan international Victor Caceres is set to join Brazilian club Flamengo next week, according to the midfielder's agent.
The 27-year-old made a verbal agreement with the Rio outfit in January but has been forced to delay his arrival until the completion of his contract with Asuncion-based Libertad, reported Xinhua.
The player's agent Regis Marques said Wednesday he was hopeful Caceres would be released early from his contract, which will not expire until July.
"We're just waiting for a response from Libertad," Marques said. "We don't see any reason why they won't accept our request because there are only two weeks left on his deal."
Flamengo vice-president of football Paulo Cesar Coutinho said Caceres would step straight into the club's first team.
"He will be able to play straight away because he is already match-fit," Coutinho said.
Caceres has played 27 matches for Paraguay since making his international debut in 2007. (IANS)
