New Delhi: Dalima Chibber had a field day as she struck a brace to inspire Tagore International School to a 2-1 win over Cambridge in a semi-final of the Under-17 girls' 52nd Subroto Cup played here at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Sunday. The win saw help them earn a spot in the finals.
Both the teams started off well and posed constant threat on each other’s citadel putting pressure on the custodians. The first blood of the match was drawn in the 16th minute by Cambridge when striker Divya Joshi’s pass from the midfield found the striker Chetna Dadwal, who in turn did not make any mistake and found the exact mark.
TIS however hit back soon and got the equalizer just four minutes before the half time, when the hero of the day Dalima Chibber scored a solo goal. The teams went into the lemon break with score at par with each.
After the change of ends, the teams started with same intent, but however failed to trouble the scorer. Dalima though threatened the Cambridge twice on number of occasions, but lack of support from her teammates could not see foiled any chances of scoring.
As the regulation time end with a tied score of 1-1, the match went into the extra time. Cambridge looked lackluster in the extra time and looked less promising. As when the match looked that it would require a penalty shootout to decide the finalists, Dalima sprang back in action to score her second goal of the match to see her side through to the finals.
They now face Vasant Valley Girls in the finals, who earlier defeated Alcom Public School 3-2 by virtue of a penalty shootout.
