New Delhi: AIFF XI, represented by All India Football Federation’s Kalyani Regional Academy boys would be taking on current Group A Leaders PVF Vietnam in an away match of the Asia Champions Trophy 2014 in Hanoi on Saturday (June 28).
While PVF VIetnam sit pretty on 16 points from 6 matches so far, AIFF XI stay on five points from 6 matches. The last time the two Teams met at the Barasat Stadium, the match ended 1-1.
The AIFF Academy boys landed in Vietnam early morning on Friday (June 27) and stay ‘geared up for the match.’
Head Coach Goutam Ghosh told www.the-aiff.com prior the time of departure that the last match victory against Home United, Singapore couldn’t have come “at a better time.”
“We were being distinctly unlucky. We were failing to capitalise on the opportunities and convert them, the result of which we suffered setbacks. Only a win could have brought back our confidence and a convincing win against Home United make us aware of our capabilities,” he stated.
“We are gearing up for PVF Vietnam.”
AIFF XI had routed Home United, Singapore 6-1 in their last match at the Barasat Stadium last Saturday (June 21).
This is the first-time that an Indian age-group Team is participating in the Asia Champions Trophy. The Tournament comprises of twelve U-16 Teams playing in two Groups with the top-two from each Group advancing to the semifinals. All matches, including the semis, the third-place play-off and the Final would be played on a Home and Away basis.
