Bagan abandon match as Derby end without resultKolkata: The Kolkata Derby between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal in the I-League ended in a bitter way as it was called off mid-way after the former decided not to field their team in the second half at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Sunday.

East Bengal hosting the match were leading by Harmanjot Kabra 42nd minute goal at the half time.

Tensions soared and just like everyone’s expectations words were exchanged and an over emotional Okolie Odafa was shown the door after he tried to intimidate the referee.

All hell broke loose in the stadium where 80,000 spectators had gathered to watch the match. A missile from the stand was thrown towards the ground apparently by one of the Bagan fans at the referee.

The target went ashtray and hit Syed Rahim Nahim instead, Bagan’s right back causing him a serious injury. He had to be rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where the doctors are still monitoring him. His health however is said to be stable.

The match was stopped for 10 minutes after the incident and then both the teams returned to finish the remaining moments of the first half.

But the drama just started as the green and maroons refused to come to come out of the tunnel post the half-time citing security concerns and eventually the match had to be abandoned.

The decision is yet to be passed as the tournament committee is studying the reports of the match official is studying the reports of the match after the matter was reported to them.

The decision is expected before the next match and it is likely that they may attract a two year ban from the I-League.
