New Delhi: 16 school teams from Delhi/NCR region will vie for top honours at the 1st Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) Inter – School Girls Football Girls Football Tournament which gets underway from August 16 at the DDA Netaji Subhash Sports Complex, Jasola here.
The tournament will be played under the league cum knockout format and this is the first time an initiative like this has been undertaken by the DSA.
According to the DSA secretary Syed Saheen the tournament is being organised with an aim to promote the game at the grass-root level and also to encourage girls to take up the sport.
The teams are divided into six groups of three teams each for the prelims rounds with top teams qualifying for the last eight.
All India CBSE champions Ahlcon Public School (Mayur Vihar) and Subroto Cup Champion/CBSE runners-up team Vasant Valley,Vasant Vihar have received a bye into the next round and start their campaign from the quarterfinals.
Mater Dei School, New Delhi will take on the amity International School, Noida in the tournament opener on August 16.
The finals is scheduled for Septemer 3rd.
