Delhi: Gurkirat Mann made 187 from 207 balls with 21 fours and 4 sixes and helped Punjab to make a total of 424 runs at the end of the second day’s play in the final of Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy against Delhi being played at DDCA.
Resuming at 261 for 5, Punjab lost wicket keeper Gitansh Khera for 59 off 134 balls including 6 boundaries. He could add only 5 runs to his overnight score of 54 before being caught by Manan Sharma off medium pacer Sunny Sherawat.
Thereafter Punjab lost two quick wickets of Gurinder Singh (0) and Gunjot Singh (04). Meanwhile Gurkirat Singh held sway over the Delhi bowlers as he clobbered 127 runs out of the total of 424. He was ably supported by Siddharth Kaul (26) off 97 balls studded with 4 boundaries. Gurkirat Singh showed a lot of maturity by farming the bowling while wickets were falling at the other end. He was the last man out when he nicked one from medium pacer Rishi Saini to the wicket keeper Arjun Gupta who gleefully accepted the catch.
Punjab’s innings lasted 125.5 overs. For Delhi, Sunny Sherawat took 4 for 96, Vikram Dahiya 3 for 96 and Varun Sood 2 for 72 shared the spoils.
In Reply, Delhi opened with Mohit Sharma and Aditya Kaushik. Medium Pacer Baltej Singh drew the first blood for Punjab as he made Mohit Sharma to nick an away swinging delivery into the safe hands of wicket keeper Gitansh Khera. The other opener Aditya Kaushik did not last long as he was snapped by Jeevanjot in the slips off the bowling of Baltej Singh for 14. Dhruv Shoreya who had come at the fall of Mohit Sharma’s wicket made a confident start as he started working the ball to all parts of the ground.
He was joined by Milind Kumar for the 3rd wicket. Dhruv Shorey became the 3rd victim of Baltej Singh as he was cleaned up for 35 off 46 balls. Milind Kumar in company of Vaibhav Rawat steadied the innings but just before close of play Vaibhav Rawat was caught by substitute Anil Sihag off Gunjot Singh for 23 off 44 balls inclusive of 3 boundaries. Rishit Saini was sent as the night watchman to keep company with Milind Kumar who was unbeaten on 47 off 84 balls including 6 boundaries and one six.
Rishit Saini also remained unbeaten on 02. Delhi was 133 for 4 in 35 overs at close of 2nd days play. For Punjab Baltej Singh 3 for 38 and Gunjot Singh 1 for 5 shared the spoils.
