Karan Kaila, Ankur Julka and Prasanth Bhandari shine in 22nd JP Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament

cricket wickets 300Chandigarh/Mohali: PCA Colts playing at GMSSS Sector 26 against Assam carved out a 98 runs win to garner four points in the 22nd JP Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament, here on Friday.

Riding on Karan Kaila’s all round display, which won him the man-of-the-match award, PCA Colts shocked Assam Cricket Association.  Karan Kaila after a brisk knock of 34 off 36 balls with three boundaries came up with a match winning bowling performance of 7-3-21-4. 

Earlier PCA Colts won the toss and were soon on the back foot when their opener Shivam Bhambri was castled by Arup Dass on the fifth ball of the first over before troubling the scorers. Thereafter, Sanvir Singh and Taruwar Kohli steadied the ship to add 35 runs for the second wicket in 10.5 overs before Sanvir was stumped off Sarupam.

Punjab kept on losing wickets regular intervals and at one stage were looking down the barrel with half the side back in the pavilion with the score reading 68 in 21.3 overs. At this stage Navneet Virk and Anmol Malhotra took charge of the situation and put on 59 runs for the 6th wicket before Anmol Malhotra was caught plumb in front by Vikas for 36 off 49 balls with 3 boundaries and one six. 

Skipper Karan Kaila then in company of Navneet Virk put on 37 runs for the 7th wicket before Navneet Virk was LBW to Abu Nicham for a well made half century 59 off 62 balls with six boundaries and two sixes.  Punjab innings ended at 212 in 48.4 overs.  For Assam, the bowling honours were shared by Arup Dass 2 for 35, Abu Nicham 2 for 32 and Sarupam P  2 for 39.

Replying Assam were soon in trouble losing six wickets for a measly 56 runs in 18.4 overs when Sarupan P  34 off 41 balls with two fours and three sixes and Abu Nicham  21 off 32 balls with three boundaries added 48 runs for the seventh wicket.  Other main contributions came from Shivshankar Roy 30 off 50 balls with two boundaries. Baltej Singh 2 for 13, Karan Kaila 4 for 21 and Vinay Chaudhary 2 for 19 were the main wicket takers for PCA Colts.

In the second match played at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula, CAG winning the toss against Vidarbha elected to field and restricted Vidarbha to 202 in 50 overs. CAG got off to a disastrous start losing their openers to medium pacer Ritu Raj with the team’s total reading 6 for 2 in 5.3 overs. Biplav Jungare  44 off 83 balls with five boundaries and one six and Vdant Ingle  55 off 78 balls with six boundaries added 85 runs for the third wicket before Biplav Jungare was caught by Himashu Chawla of Ankit Sharma. Amol Ubarhande remained unbeaten on 45 off 57 balls with three boundaries. For CAG, Ritu Raj  4 for 25, Gurinder Singh 2 for 47 and Gokul Sharma 2 for 34 shared  the spoils.

Replying CAG posted a seven-wicket win with 11.4 overs to spare. They scored 206 for 3 in 38.2 overs. Ankur Julka  unbeaten 70 off 59 balls with five fours and five sixes and Biplav Samantray unbeaten 53 off 57 balls with  four boundaries were involved an unbeaten partnership of 130 runs for the fourth wicket. Other contributions came from Bandeep Singh 34 and Arpit Basabra 29. For Vidarbha Omkar Dixit 2 wickets for 57 runs.  Ankur Julka got man-of-the-match award. CAG got four points while Vidarbha got zero.

In the 3rd match played at Cricket Stadium, Sector 16, the defending champions ONGC Delhi sneaked past HPCA by two wickets to garner four points while HPCA got zero. HPCA batting first scored 202 for 8 in 50 overs. Ankush Dhaliwal (22), Ravi Thakur (26), Arjun Sharma (46) and Mani Sharma (29 not out) were the main run getters for HPCA.  For ONGC, Under 19 World Cup player Mahipal Lomoro 3 for 15, Zeeshan Ansari 2 for 37 and Nitish Rana 2 for 30 shared the spoils.

Replying ONGC scored 205 for 8 in 49.1 overs. They were able to realize their target through a match winning knock by Prasanth Bhandari who scored 76 brilliant runs off 85 balls spiked with seven boundaries. Skipper International Star Parveen Kumar also chipped in with 29 off 38 balls with four boundaries and was associated in a match winning stand of 52 runs for the 7th wicket with Prasanth Bhandari. Prasanth Bhandari was named man-of-the-match.
