Mumbai: On Monday, when chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil was facing the media in what was his final team selection ahead of the series against New Zealand, he sure was expecting a bunch of tricky questions to be thrown at him at that point in time.
During the press conference, Patil also went on to add the reasons why the selectors rest their faith on Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan inspite of some stellar performances by Gautam Gambhir at the domestic front.
However to his surprise, he was asked a question pertaining to Sachin Tendulkar's retirement in October 2013 as to whether the board and the selection committee had forced the Little Master into considering retirement. Patil said, “There are some decisions taken by the panel and the BCCI after consulting the due personnel and such decisions are kept confidential and not let out, come what may.”
He also went on to add that as the selection committee approached the end of its tenure, he was very proud of some of the bold decisions taken over the course of the past four years which had yielded in tremendous amounts of success for the national team across all formats. He concluded his speech saying that the next panel of selectors would have a larger pool of talent to pick from, thanks to steps taken by the BCCI to include former stars in the administrative set up.
One would only hope that Sandeep Patil's words bears its fruits and India continues to excel across all formats.
