Former India coach John Wright happy to see involvement of former players in Indian cricket

sourav gangulyWhile the Indian cricket team has had long list of coaches, not many have stood out like the way John Wright did. Having coached the side from 2000 to 2005, he was highly instrumental in establishing one of the strongest Indian sides ever forging a relationship Sourav Ganguly and together at the helm, both of them took the team to greater heights drawing series in England and Australia and later going on play the final of the 2003 World Cup.

When asked about the current administrative set up in Indian cricket, he says he is happy to see Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble guiding the junior and seniors teams respectively, in addition to VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar who form a part of the Advisory Committee and Javagal Srinath, too, is a match referee.

Wright went on to add that he was very privileged and fortunate to work with a bunch of bright talents who had it in them to single handedly win games and all he add to do was just channelise their talents in the right areas and make them do wonders for the side, and boy, they did.

Each of them went to become superstars of the game amassing tens of thousands of runs and taking close a thousand wickets going down record books as the greatest ever and are still fondly remembered as the "Big Five".

One would only hope that the future of cricket in the country is guided well by these stalwarts and is not hampered by the scar caused by the match fixing scandals which rocked the game in the past few years.
