Lauderhill: The second T20 match of the two-match series between India and West Indies ended without any result due to rain, here at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill. The match was delayed for half an hour because of a technical problem.
The Windies started aggressively making 24 runs in the first 3 overs. Mohammed Shami took the wicket of the centurion in the previous match, Evin Lewis, in the third over of the match. Everyone thought that this wicket would put a brake to the Windies scoring. However, the Windies started counter-attacking. Shami was hit for a six the very next ball by Johnson Charles followed by a couple of boundaries. They even went after Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the next over and the score was 50-1 after 5 overs.
However, Amit Mishra pulled the strings back after he dismissed Johnson Charles on the first ball of the sixth over. The spinners were able to put brakes on the fast moving scoreboard. Lendl Simmons was stumped cleverly by Ashwin as he bowled a very wide delivery after watching Simmons come down the pitch. Marlon Samuels was quickly dismissed by Bumrah. This followed the Windies collapse.
They lost six wickets for 51 runs. They made 100 runs less than they did in the previous match and it really looked like the chase was going to be a breeze for the power packed Indian line-up. India was 15-0 after two overs before rain intervened and the match was eventually abandoned. The Indian team came out with intent.
It was clear that the Indians came out with a bowling plan when captain Dhoni and vice-captain Kohli were in constant discussion with their bowlers. The Indian bowlers came back brilliantly after the first t20 restricting the Windies to 100 runs less than they previously scored. The Indian team had a plan for Johnson Charles and Evin Lewis. They were bowling wide to Charles where he seemed to struggle and dismissed centurion Evin Lewis on a bouncer which climbed on to him.
