Kanpur: Not happy with India’s five-run loss to South Africa in the first one-dayers at Green Park in on Sunday, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that there were plenty of things that went wrong for his team.

“The outcome was not great for us. There were plenty of things went wrong. However, we showed the character to get close,” said Dhoni, adding that nevertheless India should have won the game.

“We missed Ashwin’s six overs that were crucial because he was our best spinner. Until that point the plan was working beautifully. I had to get more overs from Binny and Raina. In the end I thought our bowlers should have done a bit better,” said the Indian skipper, who was in all praise for Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane.

“I thought the partnership between Rohit and Rahane was superb to keep it ticking.”

Talking about his innings, Dhoni said it was difficult in the middle. “The ball was not coming at a good height, so it becomes difficult on such a wicket. A lot depends on the execution part. It's not only about the boundaries you have to keep the score ticking,” said the skipper.
