Split captaincy is working beautifully for South Africa: Faf du Plessis

PlessisNew Delhi: Though India might be relatively new to the split captaincy with Virat Kohli taking charge of Test, while MS Dhoni still at helm of affairs for the ODI and T20, South Africa have been experimenting on it for quite a while now and according to South African Twenty20 cricket team captain Faf du Plessis, it’s working beautifully for their team.

“For us it’s working beautifully. Someone like AB with a lot on his plate can sit back and enjoy during T20s. That enables him to always remain in fresh mind. Hashim, as the Test captain, has extra responsibility and in T20s, he gives that over to me,” Du Plessis said during a press conference, here on Monday.

Du Plessis said the there has been difference in opinion among the leaders because of this and that they have worked together and would continue to learn from each other.

However, the Proteas captain was surprised to find Dharamsala as the first venue to open their campaign against India. He said the cool confines of the hill town would be more conducive for his bowlers. “I was quite surprised when I heard that we will be playing in Dharamsala first.”

“The great thing about T20 is that you will get to play at different venues. Dharamsala has a nice wicket with good pace and bounce. We would be looking to use those conditions with our quick bowlers,” he said.
