Kohli blames whole team for humiliating 63-run loss to Sri Lanka in first Test

virat kohli 26Galle: Blaming the whole team for India’s humiliating 63-run defeat to Sri Lanka in the first Test on Saturday, Indian skipper Virat Kohli said that India have no one to blame than themselves for this loss.

"We got no one to blame but ourselves,” said Kohli, giving all credit to Angelo Mathews and his team.

“We failed to capitalise after taking the first five wickets in the second innings. We should have finished the game in that session, one bad session and the game can turn, that is how Test cricket is,” said the Indian captain.

In all praise for Rangana Herath, Kohli said the spinner was an outstanding bowler. “He put our batsmen under pressure. The pitch behaved strangely. It looked hard on the first morning. Angelo chose to bat, it started spinning. In our first innings it played nicely. We got a good total. We thought it would get more difficult. The way Dinesh Chandimal and the others batted, they kept Sri Lanka in the hunt,” said Kohli.

After India took a substantial 192 first innings lead, Chandimal’s superb century (162) gave Sri Lanka 176 runs to defend in the second innings. Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath ose to the occasion and claimed seven wickets to bowl out India for 112, to give Sri Lanka a win at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.
Sri Lanka has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
