Fatullah Test: Scintillating Dhawan, cautious Vijay take India to 239/0

Shikhar Dhawan TestFatullah: A scintillating 150 (off 158 balls) by Shikhar Dhawan and a cautious 89 (off 178 balls) by Murali Vijay propelled India to 239 without loss in a rain truncated match on the first day of the one off Test match here at Fatullah ground on Wednesday.

Electing to bat first, Dhawan and Vijay feasted on the Bangladeshi’s bowlers on a perfect batting track, even as heavy rains curtailed the match to only 56 overs at Fatullah’s Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.

Though Vijay survived a couple of leg-before appeals and Dhawan was dropped on 73, India skipper Virat Kohli decision to bat was as the left-right opening combination yielded good results for the team. Left out of the side from the Sydney Test against Australia in January, Dhawan was at his fluent best. The batsman went on to complete his third century from 101 balls after Vijay had helped himself to his 11th Test fifty. Vijay brought up the 200-run opening stand with the only six of the day off Jubair Hossain.
