Ranchi: Sunrisers Hyderabad got the better of Chennai Super Kings by six wickets to keep their hopes alive in the ongoing IPL Season 7 here on Thursday.
Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and elected to field in a wicket which was brilliant for batting. Chennai Super Kings made full use of the conditions as they went off to a flying start as usual because of Dwayne Smith who has been in ominous touch since the beginning of the tournament. After a good start CSK lost two quick wickets, that of Faf du Plussis and Sureh Raina which slowed down the proceedings. Soon Smith also took the same path as he was dismissed for a well made 47 and it was left to David Hussey and Mahendra Singh Dhoni to rebuild the innings all over again.
Hussey and Dhoni did not disappoint the CSK fans as the duo took Chennai Super Kings to a formidable total of 185 runs. Dhoni took more than 20 runs of Steyn of the last over and Hussey smashed it to corners of the park leading up to the end overs. At the end both the players made half-centuries and remained unbeaten. Hussey scored 50 off 33 balls followed by Dhoni who scored 57 off 41 balls.
Sunrisers Hyderabad got exactly what was required early on in the innings as David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan kept the hopes alive by putting on a hundred run first-wicket stand which brought Hyderabad right back in the match. From then on it was no looking back for Hyderabad although they lost Warner for 90 who was soon followed by Ojha for 19. Dhawan stayed till the end and took Hyderabad over the line as he remained unbeaten on 64 off 49 balls. The win keeps Hyderabad alive in the tournament.
