Mumbai Indians decides to retire No. 10 jersey

sachin-miMumbai: Mumbai Indians have decided to retire the No 10 jersey that belonged to Sachin Tendulkar for so many years playing in the IPl. This is to mark and celebrate a glorious career of Sachin Tendulkar spanning 24 years and this decision could not have come at a better time when Mumbai Indians have won both the IPl as well as the Champions League in the same season.

The above decision has been confirmed by Nita Ambani as she thinks this is the best way to show love and respect as well as paying tribute to the living legend who had decided to retire from all forms of the game which included the IPL and the Champions League.

The same thing can be done in the Indian team but no such response has come from the BCCI which will give an indication that they are willing to take such steps.

Sachin Tendulkar was the icon player of the Mumbai Indians since the inception of the Indian Premier League and has also captained the Franchise in numerous occasions before passing it on to the younger generations which includes the likes of Harbhajan Singh and Rohit Sharma. Ricky Ponting was also the captain of the Mumbai Indians for a brief period in the earlier edition of the Indian Premier League.

This is not the first time that this has happened in sports where a Jersey have been retired. It has happened in the past and quite a lot in football. The No 10 jersey of the legend Pele was retired but later the likes of Zico, Rivaldo and Kaka wore it. The same thing happened in Argentina as similar steps were taken for Maradona which was later flaunted by Lionel Messi, the same No 10 jersey.

While it has happened in football this will be the first time it will happen with cricket and it starts with the little master Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.
