Wankhade Stadium to host Sachin’s last Test match

Sachin-Tendulkar-cricMumbai: The stadium which hosted the World Cup final, Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium is all set to host the farewell Test of Sachin Tendulkar after the little master expressed his wish of playing his last and 200th Test match in front of his home crowd in Mumbai.

Ravi Sawant told PTI that Sachin Tendulkar has put forward a request to BCCI where he expressed his wish of playing his last Test match at the Wankhede Stadium.

Sources suggest that a top BCCI official has confirmed the news that Mumbai is almost certain to host the big match but it can only be made official after the BCCI's tours and fixtures committee makes the announcement which might happen very soon provided that there is not much time left for Tendulkar's last Test match which is scheduled to begin on the 14th of November.

The BCCI's tours and fixtures committee, headed by Rajiv Shukla, will meet on Tuesday to finalise the venues of the series.

Mumbai was not the only venue which was in contention to host the historic Test match as until now Eden Gardens was favourites to host the match and also expressed their interest in hosting the Test match along with Brabourne Stadium of Mumbai. But Tendulkar's request have shifted the balance in favour of Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai and it seems that Mumbai in all likelihood will get to host the match as of now.

The two match Test series between India and West Indies is set to begin in the month of November with the first Test scheduled to begin on the 6th November.

Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar had announced his retirement from all forms of the game after the West Indies series which will mark the end of a glorious career that spanned more than two decades.
