Ranchi: The 89-run second-wicket partnership between Michael Hussey and Suresh Raina, followed by some useful batting by S Badrinath and D Dravo helped Chennai Super Kings beat Nashua Titans by four wickets at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, here on Sunday.
Chasing a mammoth total of 185 runs, CSK achieved the target with seven balls remaining. Though the Mahendra Singh Dhoni led team had a disatrous start as they lost Murali Vijay in the very first over with their score at six, Hissey and Raina brought them back into the game with a useful 89-run second wicket partnership before Raina fell in the eighth over at an individual score of 47 runs off just 28 balls. Hussey too didn't last long and was back to the pavilion two overs later for a similar score.
However, Badrinath and Bravo maintained their composure and added 58 runs in the next 38 balls to take their team close to the victory. After some mid-wayhiccups where they lost the wickets of Bravo, Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja in quick succession, Chennai easily won the match with seven balls remaining.
Earlier, Titans were of to a good start H Davids and J Rudolph added 46 runs in 6.2 overs before Rudolph was ran himself out for 21 runs. Thereafter, Davids and AB de Villeiers added a 39-bfor the second wickets which took Titans towards a massive total. De Villiers played a gem of an innings and sent CSK bowlers on leather hunt. He blasted as many as seven sixes and three fours. Riding on a rollicking 77 off 36 balls from AB de Villiers, Titans made a big 185 for 5.
