Blessed with a bit of cricketing sense: Dhoni

dhonidelightedPort of Spain: Captain Cool MS Dhoni once again steered India to a title win as he smashed 16 runs off the lasts over to give India a win over Sri Lanka in the tri-series final here on Thursday. Ecstatic about the win, Dhoni said that he thought himself to be blessed with a bit of good cricketing sense.

“I think I am blessed with a bit of good cricketing sense,” said Dhoni, adding that the whole team has been doing good and that is a good sign.

Dhoni also felt that the opposition bowler bowling the last over wasn’t the most experienced and that helped India’s cause. “He was not the most experienced in that last over unlike Malinga, so I thought I would take my chances. I went with a heavy bat and the weight of the bat was perfect for slogging,” said the Indian captain.

Rohit Sharma, who got an award for being the most trusted player, said, “I am really happy with the way we performed. The wicket was not easy to play shots. I wanted to delay my shots and wanted to stay as long as possible in the middle,” he said. In all praise for his skipper, Sharma said it wasn’t anything new. “We have seen Dhoni doing it over and over again, so it was not so much of a surprise."

Meanwhile losing captain Angelo Mathews said, “It was a great game. The bowlers showed a lot of character to defend 200. Sanga and Thirimanne batted really well, but we lost momentum after that. Had we played till the end, we could have pushed it to 230-240 and that would have been enough. Herath bowled really well to bring us back into the game. But Dhoni is always a dangerous batsman. We played a good tournament throughout. Though we didn't win the title, the players showed a lot of character."
