Kolkata: Thanks to some good batting display by skipper Gautam Gambhir, Jacques Kallis and Eoin Morgan, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad comprehensivley by 48 runs at Eden Gardens on Sunday. Crediting Morgan and Kallis for the win, Gambhir said that it was a fantastic effort from the duo.
"It was a good wicket to bat on. The way Morgan and Jacques batted, it was fantastic. We were thinking of 160 at one stage, but to get 180 is great. Morgan has been an incredible batsman. We wanted to give him more time,” said Gambhir, who also won the match-of-match award.
“We wanted someone to complement Sunil and the way Senanayake and Sunil bowled, it's great for us. We got the right pick to bowl in tandem with Sunil. When you're in good nick, you've got to take the team along," added Gambhir.
Meanwhile Sangakkara said that they were outplayed by a better side. "We brought it back pretty well after the first six overs, but lost a bit of momentum. We were outplayed by a better side. If we had limited them to about 160, we would have made a game out of it. We were never really in the chase from the start. We thought in the Powerplay, having White on the top would help him get a big one for us. We've got good hitting power in White, Reddy and Perera. The rest of us have to rotate the strike," said Sangakarra.
