Chennai: Though Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets in a thriller at Chepauk, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who played a stellar role in the victory with his astounding knock of 67 off 37 deliveries, wasn't too amused. According to the skipper Chennai would have to pull up their socks as they move towards the latter stage.
“I think we started off well with the ball but gave away too many runs in the death overs. Chasing 160 becomes difficult. The bowlers did not do well,” said Dhoni, adding that he got off to a good start but had to slow down in the middle seeing the condition and situation.
“I did get a good start with the bat but slowed down in the middle as we lost wickets. Their leg-spinners bowled well and the wicket also got slower. But slowing depended on lot other factors and one being the batsman at the other end. Bravo, for instance played a maiden,” said Dhoni, who also got the man-of-the-match award.
He said that it was difficult to gauge how many was too many. “It difficult to forsee that and therefore we cannot have a fixed game plan. The performance of the side has been good but as we get to the latter stage, we need to raise our games. Bowlers need to start bowling Yorkers. It becomes critical towards the end of the tournament. They need to realise that it's the one recipe that does not go wrong,” said Dhoni.
Meanwhile Cameron White was disppointed losing the match despite posting a good total. “It was a good total in the end. It was a bit a poor performance from our side in the first six overs but we did well in the last five. The loss was disappointing. To get ourselves in this position and lose was bad. There were a few areas we were off and we need to improve for the game day after tomorrow. You need to learn from your mistakes and make better players,” said White
