Pune: Angelo Mathews has stepped down as Pune Warriors India captain for the rest of IPL Season 6 in order to ensure the continuity in the team leadership.
Mathews said the decision was in the best of team's interest as the captaincy should not be switched too frequently. “I would like to confirm that I have decided to stand-aside as Pune Warriors franchise captain for the rest of the current season to ensure team leadership continuity. It is in our best interests that the captaincy is not switched frequently as we strive to achieve the best balanced team for each different opponent,” he said, adding that given that Aaron (Finch) is likely to play in all our remaining games, it is logical that he continues to be the Warriors captain.
“I will naturally provide my fullest support at all times to Aaron and my team-mates. I will also continue to work as hard as possible as a player as we all strive to win our remaining matches. I am thankful to the franchise for understanding my decision and for all the support received by my fellow team-mates and our fans during the past few weeks,” said Mathews.
