Sourav Ganguly happy with Bhajji’s recall

harbhajan 20Kolkata: Happy with the inclusion of off-spinner Harbhajan Singh in the Indian Test squad against Australia for first two Test of the four-match series, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Monday said that he was always hopeful of the Turbanator’s comeback.

"It's a good decision to bring him back into the side. I've always been hopeful of Bhajji. But it's the skipper (MS Dhoni) whether he would play in the XI," Ganguly said at Eden Gardens after the CAB's working committee meeting.

Ganguly, who has always endorsed the inclusion of the veteran off-spinner in the Indian team, however, said that now Bhajji’s inclusion in playing will depend on Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

It was under Ganguly's captaincy that Harbhajan went on to evolve into a full- fledged match winning bowler.

Meanwhile speaking on the exclusion of Gautam Gambhir from the team, Ganguly said it was but normal. "It's normal to be left out when you're not doing well. But I'm confident he would do well to make a comeback,” said Ganguly, adding that the hosts despite losing to England recently, still have the edge against Australia.

"Both the teams are going through a transition phase. India will have the slight home advantage to win the series. But it all depends how they utilise the conditions. But you would have do well. It's important for the youngsters as India have a busy Test schedule ahead."

Ganguly also welcomed the selection of Bengal pacer Ashok Dinda. "Dinda has been an India regular in ODI and T20 formats. It's good to see him in Test squad. He needs to be accurate in the longer version of the game," he said.
