Pattinson ready to exploit dusty Indian pitches

Chennai: James Pattinson might not be able to bowl his steaming bouncers on Indian flat tracks but the Victorian pacer would like to make the most of the given opportunity by picking up crucial wickets of the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag in the upcoming Test series starting on February 22 in Chennai.

Pattinson managed to pick up just one wicket in the practice match against Board’s President XI. He said, “I am looking to just stick to my basics and I will try to bowl at the good pace and my aggression are going to be key for my success.”

Pattinson said he was heartened by the bounce and carry on offer for the quicks at Chennai's Guru Nanak College Ground, where Australia made 241 and 0-15 and the home side fell eleven run short and ended up at 230.

Pattinson and seam-bowling all-rounder Moises Henriques (4-12) claimed half the wickets for the visitors. Australia will play a three-day game against India A starting on Saturday.

"They talk about it being slow and low but there was a little bit of carry with the new ball," Pattinson said, adding, "I was a bit surprised. You can use your bouncer quite effectively early on.”

Pattinson said the ball will start swinging during the earlier half of the day in India, which is also a tactic Australia's bowlers will be keen to exploit, as Henriques did on Wednesday.
