Aussies will test the Indian spinners: Usman Khwaja

India-vs-Australia-CricketChennai: The India-Australia series is yet start but the mind games have already begun and this time its Australia’s batsman Usman Khawaja who has targeted the Indian spin trio for the upcoming series.

"We've had enough practice and we are as ready as ever. The Indian spinners have a lot of pressure on them too because if it is a turning wicket and they will be expected to take wickets. Our quality batting line-up will surely test them. In sub-continent you get reverse swing and our pacers are really looking forward to the challenge," Khwaja told reporters.

Australia looked rusty against the spin bowling of Jalaj Saxena and Rakesh Dhruv who picked up 11 wickets in the second match against the visitors. But Khawaja looked confident of his pacers and said, “We should not overlook the importance of pace bowlers in these conditions because may be reverse-swing might prove more than effective in these conditions.”

"I think the guys know what to expect. I am a bit new, so I am finding my feet a little bit. I've seen that pace can be as effective as spin out here and our bowlers proved that in the last two tour matches. Every wicket in India, I assume, will be a bit different," he said.

Asked whether the Aussie spinners did well enough in the practice games, Khwaja replied, "In terms of practice, this is obviously what the spinners wanted. It obviously didn't go as well for them as it did for the Indian spinners, but the Indian batsmen also batted really well."

"Spinners will surely hold the key for both the teams and in practice matches all the spinners did well but they gave away few extra runs. It would be harsh on them if we judge them on the basis of couple of games," he added.

The Pakistani-born Australian cricketer said the best way to approach a game is to always remain positive. "Keeping calm mind-set with lots of positivity and patience will ease up the things for this tough series." he said.

Khawaja said the Indian spinners had put a lot of pressure on the visiting batsmen during the three-day tour game. "You've got to give credit to the spinners; they bowled very well. They used the conditions brilliantly and put a lot of pressure on us. It was good to get out there and put ourselves under a bit of pressure."
