I will bowl what my team wants me to: Lyon

lyon is in attacking modeChennai: Nathan Lyon is all set to attack the Indian batting line-up with his regular stock-ball. He did well in the practice matches and to ensure the Australian team management that he can shoulder the burden of being a lone spinner for the first Test that starts from February 22 in Chennai.

He sees himself in a role of an attacking bowler rather than simply putting breaks on Indian scoring rate. He can surely pull it off if Aussie pacers can help them out with their reverse swing.

Lyon said, "I see myself as an attacking option. But we have a quality pace bowling unit and I will bowl what my team wants me to.”

In an era where bowlers like Harbhajan Singh and Saeed Ajmal have come up with the “doosra” Lyon believes that he would stick to his normal off-spinner to bag the wickets. "My personal favourite is Graeme Swann, along with the likes of Tim May and Ashley Mallet. I know what I can do and I stick to that," Lyon said.

"I've bowled against some high quality batsmen before. My debut against Sri Lanka  was pretty memorable. The two practice games have helped me get a fair idea of conditions here and I will try my level best to exploit them and make my team proud of that," he said.

When we he was asked about the mantras given by legend Shane Warne to him, he simply said, “I didn’t have any chat with him. But I won’t forget that session with the legend some time back, which has been a big positive for me and I think I am more focussed now.”

Other than leading the spin attack, there's another responsibility that the 24-year-old has to shoulder. It's singing the Australian team song after they win a Test match. It was Mike Hussey who used to do it till his retirement.
