Chennai: Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday said he never expected to wear the Indian jersey and lead Team India in all formats of the game. He jagged out that being a 'small-town' guy has made him a better player.
"I never thought I will represent India, not only as a captain, but also as a player. I am never worried about my selection because my focus is always on contributing for every match that I play for my country," Dhoni said in discussion moderated by commentator Harsha Bhogle.
Talking about his yesteryears in Ranchi, Dhoni said the place had a decent cricket league. He added, "Of course it's a bit tough to come from a small town but it’s kind of blessing in disguise for me and that’s what keeps the fighting spirit in me and helps me to overcome the challenges that I face on and off the field."
Dhoni, talking at the discussion held as part of a promotional event by health drink, expressed joy over the increased media coverage to sports in such small cities. He also said that the game has been always been his first priority and other follows it.
"It is very easy. You follow cricket and if you get a free time then Ad-shoots helps as you roam at your will, interacting with important people coming from different walks of society," he said.
When asked about his fitness secret he said "I am a big-foodie and once I am off the field I like to eat whatever I want.”
