Ranji: Bengal salvage draw against Mumbai

jafferMumbai: Some resolute batting performance by the top order helped Bengal draw the match against Mumbai in a Group A Ranji Trophy contest being played at the Brabourne Stadium. Bengal played over a overs to achieve a draw.

Chasing a target of 391 after the hosts declared their innings for 294-5, Bengal opening duo of Rohan Banerjee and Arindam Das avoied any casualty and saw off the 16 overs that were bowled at them. They were 47-0 at the end of the third day’s play. 

The openers continued their good work as both of them went on to get half-centuries. The first Bengal wicket fell in the 48th over the match when Abhishek Nayar got Banerjee caught behind. Nayar got in the act and picked up two more wickets in quick succession and it looked as if Mumbai will go on to win.

But wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha played a very responsible knock, Nayar went on to pick three more wickets but Saha ensured that he is there on the crease till the end.

Nayar finished with brilliant figures of 6-13 in 19 overs.
