Mumbai: A fine bowling performance from Ankeet Chavan helped Mumbai get a first innings lead against Bengal after the conclusion of day two against Bengal in a Group A Ranji Match being played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. Chavan finished with the figures of 4-61.
Mumbai were 262/7 at the start of day two with Dhawal Kulkarni (24*) and Ramesh powar (1*) starting the day for the home team. The two played well and took Mumbai past the 300 run-mark, before the innings was wrapped up.
Bengal got off to a bad start and lost two wickets for only 20 runs. Then opener Arindam Das (98*) and skipper Manoj Tiwary (39) got together and put up a solid stand of 72 runs. Tiwary’s wicket hurt Bengal badly as no other batsmen could support Das from the other end.
Banerjee played a lone hand but lacked support as Chavan ran through the tail-enders.
Mumbai were 6/0 at the end of the day’s play.
Brief Score:
Mumbai: 297 & 6/0
Bengal: 201 (Arindam Das 98*, Chavan 4-61)
