Delhi Daredevils will take on the Auckland Aces in a crucial group A encounter in the Champions League T20 today. Daredevils got their campaign off on a good note but then the way the IPL teams have things look difficult for them.
It will be a test for Daredevils today when they take on the side from New Zealand.
Daredevils, playing their second match of the tournament, are coming at the back of a comprehensive win over their country rivals Kolkata Knight Riders. Unlike the other Indian teams, they have handled the conditions relatively well and would want to continue their good run.
For Auckland, they won their opening match against KKR, but then lost to local team Titans. They would want to get their campaign back on track.
No one can be termed as a favourite and whichever team execute themselves well would win the match.
Here are few of the key players to watch out from today’s match:
Delhi Daredevils:
Virender Sehwag: Virender Sehwag flopped in the last match against KKR and would definitely want to get back to scoring runs. He is a dangerous batsman up the order and there is no doubt to that. He has been going through a bad phase in his career and he can use today’s match as a chance to redeem himself. Sehwag is a very unpredictable batsman, but the impact he can create over a match is simply brilliant. If in flow, he can hit bowlers at will and if he does get going today, then Auckland will find it very difficult in the match.
Unmukt Chand: The emerging young batsman Unmukt Chand caught the eyeballs with his match-winning century in the Under-19 World Cup finals in Australia. He has been in good form and even in the last match, he played superbly. Even though Unmukt has the ability to clear any ground, he can sometimes commits rookie mistakes.
Morne Morkel: One of the main players who took Daredevils so close to title triumph in IPL this season. Morkel will be the man to watch out and his knowledge about the conditions will make him a huge threat. He was lethal in the last match against KKR and the kind of pace and bounce he extracted from the pitch made it very difficult for the batsmen and Delhi will be banking on him.
Umesh Yadav: Yadav was brilliant in the last match and was their best bowler. He swung the ball well and did generate good pace. He has the capability of getting early breakthroughs and can also bowl miserly in the slog overs. Yadav will be looking forward to make his presence count in a big way.
Auckland Aces:
Lou Vincent: Lou Vincent is one of the most experienced batters of the side. He has already shown what he can do with the bat against KKR. He likes taking the attack to the bowlers and can hit the cricket ball very hard. Auckland would want him to get them off to a flier.
Martin Guptill: Martin Guptill, who opens the innings with Lou, holds the key to the Auckland’s batting line-up. He plays according to the situation and is seldom seen playing rash shots. He anchors the innings from one end and when required unleashes his shots. Delhi will have to get him out cheap or else he might create some serious problems for them.
Kyle Mills: He has been brilliant in this tournament. Mills, who bowls with the new ball for his side, is making optimum use of the conditions. He does not bowl at express speed but then his ability to bowl spot on and swing the ball makes him a dangerous customer. Auckland will want him to make some earl inroads.
Azhar Mahmood: He is one of the most experienced T20 players going around. Mahmood is dangerous with both bat and ball. He bowls at a good length and can trouble any batsmen on his day. He already pulled off a brilliant all round performance against KKR and would want to do it again.
