Fatorda, November 5: NorthEast United FC made it five matches unbeaten in the MG Indian Super League with a 2-0 win over Churchill Brothers at the PJN Stadium in Goa on Thursday. Ethyan González scored in the 16th minute and Antonio Moyano added the second three minutes into stoppage time.
The result provisionally strengthened NorthEast’s position at the top of the table, with Mohun Bagan Super Giant playing Odisha FC in the evening match.
González finishes a quick break
The opening goal came from a fast counter-attack that followed some loose Churchill defending. Jithin MS provided the pass and González finished with the outside of his boot.
Churchill push for an equaliser
Churchill came out with more purpose after half-time and kept the NorthEast defence under pressure for long spells. The Highlanders stayed compact and did not allow them a way back.
Moyano settles it late
The points were made safe in the 93rd minute. Abdul Rabeeh set up Moyano, whose right-footed shot took a deflection on its way into the net.
NorthEast’s previous outing was a 1-1 draw with Bengaluru FC in Guwahati. Earlier this season Jithin scored a stoppage-time winner against Mohun Bagan.
