Mumbai: Star Sports, India’s leading sports broadcaster has acquired the exclusive broadcasting rights for all pro boxing bouts of India’s boxing sensation, Vijender Singh scheduled to be held in this year.
Star Sports has acquired the rights from IOS Boxing Promotions and their UK partners Queensberry Promotions for the telecast of Vijender’s bouts along with the promotion and development of professional boxing in India. The acquisition of rights for Vijender’s bouts is in line with the Star Sports objective of building a multi-sports culture in India.
India’s first Olympic medalist and former World number one, Vijender Singh who has made a brilliant start in his professional career last year winning first three consecutive bouts, will be playing his first bout of this year on 12th March in Liverpool, UK. Ahead of his fight, the 30-year-old Vijender has set up base in Manchester to train under renowned coach Lee Beard and has been training alongside stable mates Jack Catterall, Adrian Gonzalez and Jimmy Kelly.
Commenting on this development Vijender Singh said “I am very happy all my bouts during this year will be telecasted live on Star Sports, the sports broadcaster with the largest reach not only in India but abroad also. It’s good that fans can watch me live in action on Star Sports and hotstar. I am fully prepared to knockout my opponent and register fourth win of my professional career”.
The first bout of this year will be televised LIVE on 12th March on Star Sports 2 & Star Sports HD 2 from 11:30 pm (IST) onwards and on Star’s Digital platform, hotstar.
