SHILLONG: Test event and trials for the upcoming 12th South Asian Games which begin at the NEHU, SAI Special Area Games here on Tuesday. Meanwhile, nearly 43 Top boxers from across the country are here to take part in the Test event and trials for boxing.

Emerging Junior World Champion Nikhat Zareen (51kg), who won the gold medal in fly weight division at the inaugural edition of the AIBA Women’s Junior World Boxing Championship in 2011, has now moved into the Elite category and fights in the bantam weight division.

She quickly gathered good momentum and went on to dominate the entire bout. She made her place in the round of four by virtue of a unanimous decision in the end.

In the semi-finals the Nikhat Zareen is slated to go up against MC Mary Kom 5 Time world Champion of All India Police.

Mary Kom displayed great precision and timing; her cracking straight jabs that sprung out from an indestructible defence were very hard for the Nikhat Zareen (Telagana ) to counter. Mary waited for the right moments and kept nicking points to gain the advantage. She claimed her final spot with a unanimous decision from the judges.
