The nimble footed Salman Shaikh (Railways) was at his menacing best against Naveen from Orrisa. The 21-year-old dominated the bout from the very beginning not allowing Naveen much space – his brilliant in- fighting made things very difficult for the Orrisa boxer. By the end of the final round the writing was on the wall and it was clear that Salman would be advancing into the semi final round of the light fly weight division. 

Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Amandeep Singh of the Railways won his bout by 2:1.

In the semi finals he will square up against Manoj Kumar of Punjab. “The nationals have always been a demanding tournament, you have to be in your best physical state to make it to the championship round and it’s always is a little tricky fighting over-aggressive fighters; apart from scoring points your objective is not to get hurt. I did not fight as well as I would have liked to, but it worked out fine in the end” stated Amandeep after his  quarter-final bout.
