Palm Beach Gardens, November 6: The WTGL inaugural season gets under way on Sunday when Los Angeles Golf Club, led by Michelle Wie West, take on a New York Golf Club side spearheaded by Lydia Ko at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The opening match starts at 3pm EST on 8 November, which is 1.30am IST on Monday, 9 November. Viewers in India can watch WTGL live on FanCode.
A new team league for women’s golf
The women’s team golf league has been created by TMRW Sports in partnership with the LPGA. Its rosters include World Golf Hall of Fame members, Olympians, major champions and younger players coming through.
Five teams play a round-robin regular season. Each team has a five-player roster, and three players from each side compete in every match, so line-up selection matters. The season ends with the playoffs: single-elimination semi-finals followed by a best-of-three final.
Jeeno Thitikul and Ruoning Yin debut on Tuesday
Thailand’s World No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul and China’s World No. 5 Ruoning Yin make their debuts for Motor City Golf Club on Tuesday against Los Angeles, whose roster also includes Japan’s Aki Iwai.
“I’m very excited to be part of the inaugural season of WTGL. The team format, fast pace and technology can introduce golf to a new generation of fans while giving them a fresh way to see our personalities,” said Jeeno, an 11-time LPGA Tour winner.
Yin, a major champion, said: “WTGL is a great opportunity for me and for women’s golf. I have always enjoyed team competition, and this format will give us a fun way to showcase our games and personalities while introducing new fans to the sport.”
