Guwahati: Most captains spend years earning the role. Ayushman Malakar is doing it at just 20.
The young all-rounder is leading Tezpur Titans in the inaugural Imperial Blue Packaged Drinking Water Assam Premier League. While handling captaincy, he has also emerged as one of the competition’s promising performers.
League offers a big opportunity
For Ayushman, the tournament is bigger than wins and losses. He believes the league has already become an important platform for cricketers across Assam to showcase their talent.
“Every match has been a nail-biter. The competition has been excellent from the very first day. This is a fantastic platform for players to show what they are capable of. Performances here can open doors to the next level,” he said.
Trusting the process
Tezpur Titans are still searching for their first win after losing their opening three matches. But Ayushman is not letting those defeats affect the team’s mindset.
He believes cricket often turns on small moments. Rather than worrying about results, he wants the team to stick to its plans and keep improving.
“Our team has lost a few games because of small moments that haven’t gone our way, but we’ll come back stronger. I don’t believe in results. I just trust the process. I am doing my best for my team. If things go according to the plan, the performances will follow,” he said.
Backing his batters
Ayushman also dismissed any concerns over the playing surface, saying the wicket has been ideal for good cricket.
“The wicket has been very good. It’s an international venue, so there is no reason to question the pitch. Our batters simply need to back themselves and play with greater confidence because the ability is certainly there,” he added.
Leading by example
At just 20, Ayushman is already showing the calmness expected from a captain. Results may not have gone Tezpur Titans’ way so far, but he remains focused on the bigger picture.
As the Imperial Blue Packaged Drinking Water Assam Premier League continues to shine a spotlight on emerging talent, Ayushman is proving that leadership is built on belief, patience and the courage to keep moving forward.
