London: The Indian men’s Archery Team who were looking a strong medal prospect flattered to deceive as they crashed out of the London Olympics after losing to Japan in an intense pre-quarterfinals shoot-off at the Lord’s Cricket Ground here.

Indian trio of Jayanta Talukdar, Rahul Banerjee and Tarundeep Rai, who had a disastrous start to their rankings rounds as they finished at the bottom at 12th on Friday did put a fight and were tied at 214 after four regulation rounds. Indians were leading by two points in the regulation play but then gave up the lead to enter the shoot-off.
But then the Japanese team comprising of Yu Ishizu, Hideki Kikuchi and Takaharu Furukawa outwitted their Indian counterparts 29-27 in the shoot-off, to make it to the quarterfinals. In the shoot-off each players shot individually.

They now will try to bury their worst outing and make amends in the individual eliminations rounds that will commence on Monday.
