India’s Neeraj Chopra won a Gold Medal at the Asian Games with his personal best throw of 88.06 m in the Men’s Javelin Throw Final. With this achievement, Neeraj has become only the second Indian to win a Gold in the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games in the same year. The first to achieve this feat was legendary athlete Milkha Singh. Neeraj had received his maiden Commonwealth Medal in Australia, earlier this year.
In the process, the Haryana lad created a new national record. India now has 8 medals in athletics which comes second after shooting in which the Indian contingent has managed to bag 9 medals.
In other athletics event, Neena Varakil won a silver medal after jumping 6.51 meters in women’s long jump in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Dharun Ayyasamy clocked 48.96 seconds in the 400 m hurdles to add another silver to India’s tally.
