Fort Wayne: The women cricketers of Fort Wayne recently got a big boost as they attended a coaching camp to hone their skills. Fort Wayne Warriors women cricketers become the first American Cricket Federation women team to take part in the youth and women camp on Father's day here. The women cricketers are locally coached by Ajay Lakhe, in footsteps of Jatin Patel for last few years.
Purpose of the camp was to provide phase two field training for women team and phase one training for the youth team. Field sessions also provided vital technical skills for the future coaching certification.
Such camp offers real feeling of the sports cricket's basic techniques and how it can help players to become more confident with the knowledge and competent in playing with skills they pusses. It's all about believe in self while they practice or play the cricket. "My goal is to take them to the next level where they belong by improving their over all game skills", said ACF Director of coaching Jatin Patel.
Gawri Somasundaram said "These days there are girls team coming up. In United States this game is yet to reach people, unlike base ball or soccer or any other game. We being girls are so fortunate to play this game. This venture was kick started by Ajay Lakhe. We 10 girls as a team, were dedicated and played our first tournament on last May 31. After that things got serious."
"Ajay Lakhe, our team coach with Jatin Patel decided to give a proper training. Unexpected surprise guest was cricket egend Alvin Kallicharan from West Indies. Throughout the training Jatin Patel addressed him as The Master! Had an amazing training with both legend Kallicharan and Jatin Patel. We got a chance to learn the basics from the two Masters. Batting training by Kallicharan and bowling training by Jatin Patel. Six hours of strenuous training planned and executed in an excellent way. Words from both masters. With one day training we might not reach the top. So practice every day and remember the strategies"
Simran Gulati said "I consider myself very fortunate to be a part of Fort Wayne warriors women cricket team . Fort Wayne cricket camp held on June 15 th was one of the best events I attended. I personally loved meeting Alvin Kallicharan who took some time out for the cricket lovers including kids and women . Getting batting and bowling tips from the legend like him would definitely help us improve our game in many ways . I would also like to thank Mr Jatin Patel who coached us."
"Thanks to him for letting us know so many things about cricket that we were unaware of including no. of ways by which a batman can be given out and about umpire decisions . They together taught us the basics of cricket like Holding a bat , hitting the ball, scoring the runs etc . All in all it was indeed a great experience to witness this camp and learning a lot about cricket . Lastly I would thank Mr Ajay Lakhe for arranging it for all of us . I Hope we keep getting such coaching in future too for the betterment of our game," said Simran.

And I feel even more honored that I have learnt it from the great cricket legend Alvin Kalicharan. I still cannot believe I met him, let alone getting training from him. It was a dream to have actually trained with such a great. His down to earth attitude was unbelievable and put all our jitters to rest."
"The training from Jatin Patel was so valuable and it will go a long way in correcting our mistakes. I think his sense of humor in training helps to keep people focused. I feel like I have transitioned from street cricket to a more streamlined and proper cricket. Special thanks to our coach Ajay Lakhe for making this possible in Fort Wayne.Looking forward to more camps like this," Revathi concluded.
